after shed, tail-tip remains...

ginevive Jun 22, 2003 07:08 AM

My bp shed yesterday, and a tiny bit of retained skin remains on his tail tip. I kept him in a nice humid hide for a few days, but I think maybe he needed it longer because I was away and did not realize he would shed so soon after his last one. I thought of soaking the tip of his tail, that'd work, right? i just know it will be tough, because this guy is a little frightful thing, trying to bite and hiss when you start picking him out of the cage. also, i never see my snake use his water bowl; it remains seemingly untouched with no disturbances in the substrate (carefresh) around the bowl. could he dehydrate, or do they get most of their moisture from their prey? he appears plump and healthy.

My snake did the same on his last shed. It was about 1-1 1/2 inches of tail left. I soaked him then used tweezers to gently pull away the skin. He didnt seem bothered by it. Might work for ya, but be careful that you dont terrorize him. Doesnt sound like it would take much lol.

to put him in a container with a warm (not hot) wet towel. He may feel safer and you can let him be for a couple hours in a not cold spot. Then try working at the tail tip with the towel.
