Experience with Scarlett Snakes

SalS Jul 21, 2004 11:01 PM

Does anyone have experience with Scarlett snakes. I was recently given a "stow-away" from Florida. I've seen conflicting info in diet. Some say only eggs, other say eggs, but insects, mice, lizards. The people who had it before me said it did eat earthworms and a catepillar. This snake is tiny too, maybe 6-8 inches.

any advice?

Yeah, either get rid of it, or keep it on a diet of small skinks and lizards.

If you can release it, it's the best thing. they are notoriously difficult (even as adults). I have raised several and it's a chore.

Don't give up! I bought my scarlet at the pet store...it's my first snake. It took a while to get it to eat. (ours is about 12 or 14 inches). The guy at the pet store suggested we put the snake in a small paper bag with a very small pinky, after about 2 minutes we heard the squeak. Before that, we had put a pinky in the cage and it wouldn't touch it. Now it's eating a pinky every 7 days, in the cage. It does seem a little skittish and shy, and it is always hiding, but I'm not giving up hope

Good luck!

Are you sure you are talking about a scarlet snake VS a scarlet King? What color is your snakes belly?

Their favorite is reptile eggs. I have heard of some people getting them to eat pinkie mice by scenting with reptile egg juice.
