Enough Hydration?

Elfunko Jul 22, 2004 12:26 AM

My two veild's (very young juveniles) get misted 3 times a day indoors, about every hour or two outdoors with a drip system or two (cups with holes in bottom). I've only actually seen one of them drink, the male off a leaf after I misted him. I've yet to see the girl drink. Are they at risk of dehydration? I read on this forum a large number of chams die from dehydration and it just got me worried because although I see them eat plenty, I don't see them drink plenty.

How long do you mist them? Sometimes it takes a few minutes of constant misting before they get the idea and start to drink. It seems like you are giving them water frequently enough, maybe just not long enough. I think most people shoot for 5 minutes or longer when misting/spraying.

This morning I misted them for a long time. The I set up two drips on each. By the time everything was done both cages were soaked with huge deep puddles on the bottom. But they were both outside and I just tip em over to get the water out. All other mistings aren't nearly 5 minutes. They get the plant wet and make many droplets off the top of the cage. Maybe 1 minute of mist. 5 minutes is a pretty wet affiar...
