Does anyone know the California Law about western pond turtles. I looked at eh fish and game website and it had something about desert tortoises but nothing about western pond turtles. Are these something that can be kept as pets or sold?

Generally, they are protected in all states they occur, including Cali. Special permits are required for keeping and are only granted for scientific purposes. But if you live ouside of their native range, there is little protection for them and captive bred babies are sometimes available. Awesome species.
