waterbed heater

can anyone tell me if they have used waterbed heater as a undertank heat source,, it has built in thermostat,, any thoughts on this are appreciated

Don't think it would be a good idea... In my opinion at least. Even with a thermostat they are going to heat up way too fast. They are specifically designed to have the waterbed on top to dissipate the heat, with the high wattage and limited surface area I think you would be looking for trouble. I also think they have a warning not to operate without so many inches of water on top. Much better off just getting something like FlexWatt heat tape.
