GLASS dancing

kailaya Jun 22, 2003 08:13 AM

Recently my new uro started glass dancing. I followed the advice of some archive info and put paper around the tank so he couldn't see out. Well, my uro absolutely hated it and slept for over a day and a half in the same spot. He wouldn't budge or eat. I felt so bad that I disrupted his surroundings and he was so sensitive to the change that I took it down. He's up, active, eating, and ... glass dancing a bit again. I figure he will just grow out of it eventually. Does anyone have any other type of advice to getting this behavior to stop. Are there any health reasons causing him to do this? Let me know your info. Thanks!

That's the exact opposite to what I was experiencing when I first got my uro. She was very shy and inactive at first so I covered three of her walls, cause I'd heard that that would make her feel safer. And that's when she started glass dancing. Her previous owner kept her cage inside a bookshelf so she was used to having three walls covered from the beginning. I guess it just goes to show how sensitive they are to change!

i haven't heard of there being anything particularly wrong with them glass dancing. it's not like they're gonna get rub nose from smushing their bellies up against the glass and waving their hands around. hell, my little gravid girl still does it, has done it for years. only now she's so swollen she can only get the top half of her torso off the ground, it's hilarious.

They may or may not grow out of it. There's nothing to worry about, as they either want out, or just want to "go up." You may or may not find something that works, but don't sweat it.

My two Mali's do it whether I have paper around the whole tank or none! Good exercise, and they don't seem to have rubbed their noses raw, so let them do it!

My acanthinura´s also do it. It doesn´t hurt them.
I even think it is good for them. In this way they get some excersise.

My 8 year old doesn't do much glass dancing but he does plenty of floor dancing when he goes to sleep. I swear he'll be scratching the floor in his burrow for an hour until he finally goes to sleep. SInce he's in the theater room, it's kind of annoying. I need to put a 'dead end' sign at the end of his burrow so he realizes he can't dig any further. : )

Mine cut their dancing to about ten percent when I made their new enclosure with 4 wood walls. It's bigger and they can't see out, and their nails file down nicely on the wood.
