Help, I think my gecko may be stressed

ribbitt Jul 22, 2004 02:35 AM

My Leo hides ALL of the time and is skiddish a lot. She never comes out of her hidebox anymore and now I am worried that she doesn't feel like hunting because she hasn't eaten anything out of her dish but then again she shed two days ago. I hope she eats soon. She is a juvenile and is plenty fat, but I am afraid she will lose weight if she keeps this timidness up. My sick leo is even more daring then her. Is there anything I can do to make her less stressed out? I don't even want to clean her cage anymore because she'll freak.

I've got a beautiful girl who likes nothing more than to hide in the darkest corner so no one can see her color. Kind of annoying isn't it.

I would say as long as she's gaining weight (or if she's an adult maintaining weight), don't worry about it. Some geckos just have the personality where they want to be left behind. If she's actually not eating... get her to a vet and get a fecal done. Also... possible lack of calcium or impaction can make geckos uncomfotable enough to stop eating. Both should be investigated until they can be ruled out.

Also try to avoid handling if possible... and keep activity in the room down (try to block her view of a lot of activity so she'll calm down).
Hope that helps.

you also mentioned that its a juvi, mine once he hit the 6 (aprox) month mark became fearless and is a PEST now :D A loveable, adorable pest that is.
he used to only come out for food, when i inticed him with crix on a spoon. after he ate he bolted back into his hides

now when i open the cage he'll head right out and towards my hand.

Just make sure yours keeps gaining weight, sometimes they're just scared due to their small size. i dont' think its a gross generalization to say that all young geckos are skiddish.

good luck

Mine too only come out for food, he's 6 inch long, and i guess around 5 month. I see some improvement cause he dont freak out anymore when he see my hand, i give him his mealies and i must watch my finger, it's almost a kind of game. I really hope he will get out more soon, and if i'm lucky maybe even become a pest, lol.
