Juvenile Blackthroat Questions

TJG Jul 22, 2004 09:31 AM

I have a juvi Blackthroat that I'm trying to establish a relationship with and so far he doesn't want anything to do with me. I'm looking for input from anybody whos raised these guys from baby to adult. The only experience I have with large monitors is raising an Argentine Tegu that became less tame as an adult. He doesn't bite, but is prone to tail whip but generally wants to run away. Also do most of you use gloves? I'm going to invest in some leather gloves to defend against the meat hooks. I'm hoping with time and consistent handling he will become tolerant of me. Thanks for any input! Heres a link to a not so great photo, (he is three times this size now, this photo was taken three months ago).

They may hate you or like you, thats up to them to decide not you. They are monitors not wind up toys. You should have expected this to happen before you bought it, after all it needs to have time to learn to trust you if it wants to, if not then you will have an unhandleable monitor, that can be perfectly normal.
