Interested in purchasing a rack

zhenchok Jul 22, 2004 12:00 PM

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing the following rack.
Can anyone give me some insight or any other recomendations on other racks. Is it large enough to house adult ball pythons? I would love to build one myself, but I don't think I could build one as nice for much cheaper. Any adivice would be appreciated.

Dave

I've noticed they have a few options, I would probably buy the belly heat, but I saw that they also do indirect underbelly heat. I also noticed that they use another heating medium and not flexwat type heating.

i would go with underbelly heat they seem to love it & I feel it's very effective at giving that area of the cage the proper temps...i have only order one level once & it was from freedom breeder. all the others i wouldn't know how good they are....i do hear people recommend animal plastics & boaphile quite often though.

Belly heat is good. Much better (IMHO) than back heat.

Hey Dave. In my opinion, those 32 qt. tubs are too small for large adults. Maybe they would be the bare minimum for a male, but breeder females need more room to thermoregulate properly for breeding. All my adults are in tubs that are about 39 X 17 X 6. As far as heating goes, I've used both belly heat and back heat in my racks. Right now all of my adult and neonate racks are supplied with flexwatt in the back, not under the tubs. Since my snake room has higher ambient air temps than the rest of the house, back heat does fine. During the summer, the back couple of inches of the adult tubs are near 90, while the front of the tubs are around 80 or so. My snakes have thrived under these conditions. I build all of my racks myself...and I build them similar to "Markus Jaynes". They have plans on their site. Take care, Joe

go with Boaphile. I am very picky about everything I own, (I want the best stuff) and have no complaints with Boaphile racks. Animal Plastic racks have too much space between the container and the shelves, so certain animals are able to escape. I keep cobras (escape artists like no others) in Boaphile racks, and everything is good. BOAPHILE ROCKS!!!

i just bought 4 units of there ball room rhino raxx. the tubs are included and so is a double strip of heat tape for belly heat. i moved all my balls into them and have had no problems what so ever. even my problem feeders immediatly switchedon their feed response. the best part is the price is close to the same and you dont have to buy anything, just plug it into a thermostat and your good to go.

The Balls seem to love the dark enclosed cage, and it does help them to feed better. Cobras feed no matter what, but they seem much less stressed and more apt to cruise the cage in a black Boaphile rack, therefore they get more excercise.

I love Boaphile racks/cages!!

If I do decide to go with Boaphile, what is the rack that you recomend. I really like the Rhino Raxx, but isn't the 32 quart tub too small? they don't really make anything with bigger tubs either. Thanks again, David.

The Ball Room RhinoRaxx have a little more floorspace than the Freedom Breeder racks that everybody uses. It is more than enough for adult Balls, too much open space makes them feel insecure.

Natures spirit/ Snake shacks have a rack that uses 41qt tubs that are big enough for large females. They are reasonably priced and good quality too.
