Question about Breeding in Northern BTS

Anthonyd Jul 22, 2004 12:27 PM

I have a female Northern BTS. She is 22 inches long and ready to breed. But I cant find a male anywhere. I can find juvaniles that are 3 months old and thats it. If I do buy one of these young males, will they be ready in time to breed in the spring with my female?

Exactly how old is your female?

If you're finding 3 month old Northerns, there's no guarantee on the sex of them.... unless someone is dangerously probing them... which could likely damage their sex organs.

Males can show sperm 'plugs' within 6 months, but not always that early. They are usually ready to breed by a year, or even a little sooner, but they're often not as accurate at 'hitting the target' until they're a mature adult.

Hope that makes sense..
