egg size

gavinclews Jul 22, 2004 02:29 PM

Hi again everyone.Just a little post about the size of eggs. When the eggs are growing, do they vary in size?? I have a clutch coming up to 6 weeks old on sunday and there is a noticable difference in the sizes of them. Some have grown quite considerably and others just a little. is there any cause for concern or am i just worrying again??They all look healthy enough and are not discoloured or anything so its making me wonder what is causing this. All posts are geartly appreciated. thanx!!

Are they all in the same container?

Mine all tend to be pretty close to the same. Sometimes I might get a couple that are longer but for the most part, they are real close. I haven't ever noticed any that stay small while the others get bigger.

One guess I would have is that what ever medium they are on isn't level. If an egg is on some what of a mound of perlite or Vermic. Then there may be less moisture in that area because of gravity. The eggs do grow or more accurately "swell" because of moisture. So if an egg was lower, more moisture would be available and the egg would get bigger.

Or, something may have gone wrong with the smaller eggs??? Have you candled them?

Or, they are freaks! lol Just kidding.

Let me know if you notice any being on "higher ground"

Yes i have candled them but they seem fine. I forgot to tell you that it is from the 'gavin clews midgit freek' morph of bearded dragon that i have been breeding. My speciality. What you mean that news of it hasnt reached the states yet. Oly kidding everyone. I think they must have been lacking moisture as you said but what will that mean? Will they die? Will they just take longer to hatch? Get back to me or the amazing midgit morph could become reality!!!

You kind of lost me there for a sec. ????? News & states ???

So are they in the same container?

Try to make sure they are all level & add some water to the substrate. They should equalize & all be fine. If they were in a danger of being too dry, they would have started denting or collapsing.

Good luck.
