Ornate Uro pic update

robyn@ProExotics Jul 22, 2004 05:42 PM

this is a fuzzy pic, which is disappointing, so i will have to chase down this guy again sometime soon for an in focus shot

this is our largest Ornate male from our group of babies from October of 2003. he clocked in at 315 grams yesterday. great color, great condition, great health, i am very happy with our progress.

i have seen a few suspiciously fat female Uros running around the cages, so hopefully we will see some breeding success soon from them

Your Uro is amazing. I bought a baby Ornate back in feb and mine is no where near that size. I was wondering what you are feeding yours? LOL

generally speaking, the pro exotics moto is something like "keep 'em hot and feed 'em a lot"...something to that degree. So whatever it is, they're probably offering it in great amounts with basking spots that range up to somewhere around 140-150 if I'm not mistaken. They also are using a full soil setup that they uros can dig in, so that probably has a part in it. I'm using a sort of soil setup now that just allows my uro to dig mock burrows in her extended hidespot and she is doing very well on that. I think they (especially those prone to burrowing, because some species prefer rock crevices to burrowing) prefer to have at least something to dig in, whether it's a full setup that they can dig real tunnels into or something like a nest box or like I'm doing.

But basically it's all of their husbandry rolled into one. i know robyn had all of the stuff he feeds them listed somewhere on here, but I can't find it right now.

I've gotta say, that's one of the most beautiful uros (reptiles even) that I have ever seen. The coloring is perfect.

where have you been?
