Hey, just wanted to clarify something. Your origional post said
and then useing the 55 to house the babies in when i get some.
I just wanted to point out that if you mean you want to breed your dragons and use the 55 gallon to house their babies then you are greatly underestimating the space and requirements of hatchling bearded dragons. A 55 gallon is way to big to keep hatchlings under about 3 months old in. You don't want to keep a lot of hatchlings together in one tank. You will need LOTS of tubs, about FIVE tubs per clutch (average clutch of 20 hatchlings). You will need to have a whole empty room in your house to breed dragons.
You see, from one breeding your female could lay up to 200 eggs (I got 175 from my girl this season) Once you let her breed you have no more control over how many eggs she lays or how often. My female laid her eggs every other week like clockwork! That is WAY closer together then I would have liked, but its not about what works best for me. I have had clutches hatching every two weeks. My first babies just got through that second shed (I don't believe that it is ethical to sell them before the second shed) and I have 75 baby dragons (50 are still to young to sell). Anyway, the point of all that is a 55 gallon tank will do you no good for raising hatchlings! You might be able to use it for your holdbacks... I have 15 tubs housing my babies right now, and then I have 5 tubs with various sized crickets, I have my silkwoms on a rack that holds deep cookie sheets, and then I have the roach coloney. Then there are my adults on the other wall...I can hardly fit in one room, I actually keep the feeders in the computer room usually! I like lots of floor space to take the pictures with and weight everyone.
But the suggestion of keeping your hatchlings in a 55 gal tank was such an understatement that I just had to comment. Good Luck!
And sorry Bennet if this pic is reminscent of your line...but I was feedig crickets and she was right there!!!
