My rule of thumb on the other side of the table is that they are eating. By that I mean that I only offer up gex that I personally have seen eat crix. From a pet store, one uses a bit more subjective judgement. They are in it for a $ and ....

But on the bright side I have never had a crested that did not start eating, so I would look at price and color as the gauge. You tend to get the $$$ winners at a young age from folks that do not know what they have or are able to see what is to come at an early age. Plus they have not had a chance to be neglected by the store yet.

If you are comfortable with newborns, then go for it. If this is your first gek then I would pass. The little ones take a bit more care, appropriate sized food items, little handling and experience with small animals.

I guess I would never sell them that young but as long as they are not being shipped and you are not hung up on the colors, it would be ok. Problem with the colors is that they will change alot in their first few months. But like I said if color isn't an issue, go for it. The main thing is to be sure to house them properly. At that age they need a small enclosure so they can learn to find food. You may already know this but I thought I might include it anyway. My website has more info on caring for young cresties if you need it. Best of luck with whatever you choose.

I try to keep them back until they're eating well and bouncing off the walls like a healthy baby Crested should be.

Usually that's about 3-4 weeks of age, but sometimes that's 2 months. It just depends on the individual.

If I sold a Crested at only one week old, I'd feel guilty (for the animal and for the buyer).
