RACK SIZE?

Hoopy Jun 22, 2003 10:15 AM

Hello,

My question is on the size of ubs that most of you use in your racks. Are the rubbermaid 28qt model 2221 big enough for most adult ball pythons or should I get something bigger? If I should get something bigger, what do you guys recommend and where would you get it from? Also, what racks to you guys like?

I have been asking this for sometime and everyone is telling me to get the 34L x 16W x 6H Sterilite tub(its 41qt i think). I was looking at smaller one but they keep telling me its not big enough for females or large males. I bought them from target for $5.99 a piece. www.reptiletubs.com has one thats very similar in dimensions for $12.00 a piece, not sure what the tub is like, but im betting its very nice. The sterilite tub was more convinient for me to buy though.

I use Rubbermaids that measure 26x9.25x17. They are, for me, the perfect size. I have a 2800 gram female ball in one of these, adn she has more thatn enough room to live. Don't overdo the size of your enclosures, remember, BP's are not actuve snakes, and are much more comfortable in a smaller enclosure, than a larger one.

Thats the size that I use (I have boaphile racks) They work fine but I wish I had something bigger, especially for the females.

Shelves of rubbermaid containers for holding things to save room. Snakes in this case.

We use 3 different sizes of tubs to house our balls.. babies are raised up in rbbermaid sweaterboxes #2220(same as used in the boaphile systems). yrlings(500-600g range) are upgraded to the rubbermaid 28qt tubs which work great.. from there they go into the sterilite tubs(34x16x6).. the 28qt tubs can easily house adult snakes but if ur looking to breed, they need more room to properly thermoregulate and the 28qt tubs dont provide this.. weve bred smaller girls (upto 1500-1600g as well as most of our breeder males) in the 28qt but rather provide the longer tubs so they have the option to cool even more.. we also have a rack using tubs that measure 44x17x6 for our monster females( these ladies are 3000 grams and would pretty much fill the 34" tubs themselves nevermind having room to cool).. these setups are what we use and have been very successful for us, to each their own for each situation.. good luck, just figured id share what we use here.. all our racks are custom made by us except 2 boaphile plastics racks i originally bought from jeff and still use.. even our shoebox baby racks are homemade!! thx,
