To all of those who complained about markc

Colchicine Jun 22, 2003 10:16 AM

I would like to point out how many posts have gone unanswered in the past month or two. This is where Mark made his contribution to this forum, and making sure that everybody that needed a question answered got the necessary information.

I myself have been too busy with a full-time job and my thesis work. I'm currently working on a poster I'll be presenting at a herpetology conference in Brazil next week.

If you notice the posts below about where is Andy (snakeguy88), this will tell you that yet another regular has been too busy. No doubt he is out in the field.

Not to mention that we have recently lost Henry, and Litoria, as well as other people like Becki and Cate to other forums.

Thank goodness we still have Genevieve, birdznfrogs, hecktick_punker, rc_racer_007, ellasmommie, Derek Benson and Waldo et. al. to fill in some of the other gaps.

The purpose of this posts is to point out the contributions that markc made to this forum. Hopefully if he ever comes back, we have some people who have been made aware of his efforts while he was gone, and hopefully they will stop complaining@

In my personal oppinion....

If you don't think you are going to like the answer... don't ask the question.

We all need others to point us in the right direction, sometimes those directions come in a blunt or "as a matter of fact" way, but at least you are getting questions answered.

I post one several boards since taking up the keep of frogs and I have gotten different advice from different people but that's what you do... gather the info and work from that.

Keep an open mind and listen to what other's experiences have taught them.

Come back Marc, please!

Yes, markc, like you, knew how to "tell it like it is." Usually the only people that have trouble dealing with the truth are the uneducated, and those who cannot admit "I was wrong." or "I never knew that." And any complaints regarding your tone of voice in answering posts, am I right thinking that you are exasperated over people buying these animals without researching them first?
Many times I have said to myself, after reading one of your answers, "why didn't I think of that?" You are both obviously highly knowledgible in this field. This kind of advice is leaps and bounds ahead of the info given at most pet stores, whose owners merely want to turn a cheaply-available profit and will tell you anything to make a sale. People should not criticize the educated people on this forum, who are taking time out of their schedules to help them out. Hopefully it has led to more frog/toad owners creating better habitats for their captives, and seeing them for what they really are.

Nobody is completely gone. We are all hanging out on another forum. I still stop by here and Becki does as well. Hank stoips by the other forum and so does about everybody else you lsited except Andy. I talked to him a while back and he said he hangs out on the field collecting forum now. I have been coming to the Frog and Toad forums a little more now, since the treefrog forum seems to be dead since we go to another forum a lot more. We have all been busy...

I personaly am quite fond of markc,he always tells it like it is.If more people were willing to ruffle a few feathers then maybe we would see less herp abuse through stupidity.I belive that if a person is unwilling to learn proper care for ANY animal then they shouldn't be keeping it,I just wish I had the balls to tell people off when they deserve it.I appriciate all the advice I've been given, even if it wasn't too kind,my frogs are better today for it and thats what counts.

Well I guess I'm the new guy so I'll properly introduce myself. I'm Josh Milliken I'm 20 years old and I've been studying reptiles and amphibians for 18 years. I have owned nearly every native species in my area(aside from snakes), and I'm currently living in Bridgeport, Ohio. I've been all over the east coast looking to see what I can find and what I can learn about reptiles and amphibians. I know that no matter how much you think you know, you can't always be right all the time, and that you can always stand to learn more. My preference is to keep frogs and turtles though I do own a few lizards. I'm currently awaiting the frogs I need to begin a breeding project, I hope to make Surinam Horned Frogs readily available so that wild collecting will stop or slow down, I also plan to breed my other horned frogs, and try to drive the prices down on them. That way more people can afford these wonderful frogs.
Well i'll stop by here as much as I can, usually a couple times a day. Well here's how to get ahold of me if you wanna ask me a question or wanna talk or correct me:

Good to have you on the forum. Just one question, who can't afford a horned frog? $10? $5? Glad to see you working with Surinames though, beautiful frogs. They are a few large scale breeders of horned frogs out there who supply everyone. Breeding horned frogs is about like breeding green treefrogs, no one will buy them because they are native. Although horned frogs are from Argentina. Just a thought.

Actually believe it or not most of the pet shops I have been to do not carry horned frogs, and if they do they start at $25.00 for normal ones and $30.00 for albinos. I plan to try to dirve the price down to about $10.00 for a noraml one in pet shops. I know breeders sell them cheap but pet shops try to price gouge you. And I'm the only one in this area that knows how to properly maintain horned frogs, I live around a bunch of red necks lol.

rc_racer_007 Jun 22, 2003 09:48 PM

i hardly ever come into the frog forum any more, i wish they would combine the frog and toad forums.

its cool ya recognized mwa as a (semi) knowledgable person. but im me and i can too be blunt some times i have been looking through the forums wondering where markc was, but guess i know now. ya he ruffled my feathers before and i snapped back. he was right i cant say he wasnt wrong but at times seemed snappy. but like it or hate it, it was the truth.
