How come?

Flavia Guimaraes Jul 22, 2004 09:29 PM

How come iguanas and most reptiles (like beardies, blue tongues, geckos, etc...)can become confident, trustful and even demonstrate affection towards their owners if they were not nurtured as babies?

Something we all have to remember,,,,they are still wild animals and instincts can sometimes be stronger than anything.
I love the pic of your PTS,,I have 7 of them and of all of them,I've found the females to sometimes be a little too fiesty. The pic here looks like my sweet, sweet MaryAnn.

I have only 2 males and they are very sweet indeed! Leonardo is not very talkative but Rafael is always trying to communicate with us, humans!I do love them both!

My 2 igs are very sweet too.My uros are incredibly tame, and my beardie...well, everybody knows that beardies can become very docile. Thats why im still asking " How come?".

Yes ,all but one female named Ginger and she's the second Ginger and the last PT I'll ever name Ginger. The first Ginger couldn't be tamed, would rather bite then look at you,the second one I got younger and we're working on taming her. They have one of the worse bites of any reptile I know of and I have lots!
As far as some being tamer then others,,,like everything,,they are all different.I do a lot of taming, by putting clean t-shirts that I have rubbed against me into their enclosure.I also wear a shirt for two days that they have been held on.They all are very scent oriented and this way it lets them smell themselves on me.It's worked for 13yrs now with all my different lizards and snakes.

Good idea! To handle them using a tshirt that have been " used" by them before. Then put the t-shirt back in their cages.
Yes, they are very sensitive to different smells! I have to be careful! Even mine that are very tame can react when i try to touch them after i handled my uros and iguanas! They dont try to bite me but they puff at my hands, lol!
