yes there is a difference between the two, they are both subspecies.

Columbians get to be about 3&1/2-4 feet....though they usually are on the smaller end of the spectrum, also depends on the sex of the tegu.

here's a pic of a male i had in the mid 90's, he was about 4 foot and tame as a dog......
