Is Red Wood bark safe?

drykilllogic83 Jul 22, 2004 10:50 PM

I live in southern California, which means it impossible for me to find cypress mulch, eucalyptus mulch, or orchard bark. At home depot I found that they do carry red wood bark. Would red wood bark be harmful for my tegu? If it is, do you have any other suggestions? I know I can use the jungle mix sold in pet shops but that would very expensive for how big my tegu’s cage is!

nahh...i wouldn't use it...redwood is a coniferous tree...it has phenol oils in its makeup...not good

i know you can find it in California, you just have to do some serious research, which in the longrun is going to be rewarding....i'd keep looking

"i know you can find it in California, you just have to do some serious research" Sorry, but what bark or mulch were you referring to?
