trig. size question

drzrider Jul 23, 2004 12:16 AM

I will start off by saying I do not have a crocadilian. I do have a monitor and some other herps. My wife and I have been talking about getting a dwarf caiman for a year now. I have done a ton of research on feeding, housing, and their size. There is one bit of info I can not find anywhere. I am sure that some of you guys here can answer this.

What is the snout to vent length length of a large dwarf caiman?

May I ask of why this is relevent to know? To be exact, I do not know the average lenght of an adult dwarf caimen. Are you curious to see how big his mouth will get in order to be prepared for that unexpecting nasty bite? If not, go to the (type key word) Paleosuchus Page.

Just doing all the research I can to decide if I can care for dwarf caiman responsibly. http://crocodilian.com/crocfaq/faq-4.html#5.1.2 tells what the German minimum enclosure size needs to be. I want to be sure that I can offer an enclosure that is larger than the minimum size posted anywhere. Also I am interested in the proportions of the adult caiman. I have seen a ton of young ones, but never a full grown dwarf. I expect that they get 4 to 5 feet total length (some bigger, some smaller)with about half their length being tail. This would leave a 2 to 3 foot creature with a 2 to 3 foot tail. This info is important to know for a possible future owner, so there will be no surprises for the owner.
