What tree branches are best suited for terrariums?

kozmo02 Jul 23, 2004 01:24 AM

I have heard some can rot over time and others are prone to mold, I really like the look of natural branches in a terrarium, and would prefer to switch my grapevine out for them, what are the best suited branches for terrarium use, and also, what is the best way to prep them before putting them in the cage.

i have heard baking, what temp would i use? and what is the easiest way to go about this?

are there any other methods that are equally effective?

thank you!

I dont use real branches I make my own! Its really easy, all you have to do is get some foam(the name starts with poly, home depot!) cut it into circles and gule them together, then sand it so it looks good and put silicon on it and I then (while the silicon is still wet) put dried eco earth or something like that on it! Its really eaSY!! GOOD LUCK! ERIk

hey kozmo... sorry about not getting back to you before... um... if you're just working with cresteds i think that rhododendron branches work really well... they are all sorts of interesting shapes and seem hold up pretty well after baking... i also really like using roots of trees (no specific type) because they look extremely interesting and seems to do the best with regards to rot... also... you can buy some good wood from blackjungle.com that holds up pretty well without rotting... hope this helps-paul

im actually trying to find a tree that has branches that are suitable for the terrarium, i find that actual tree branches make the best looking display in my opinion, but im having a hard time finding the right one.
