Garter Snakes?

janis_amrich Jul 23, 2004 01:35 AM

I have been reading and checking many sites online for my daughter who loves, rescues and raises snakes. At the present time she has 4 snakes housed together and all seem to live well and no problems. She tells me they are 2 green (tree?) snakes and 2 garter snakes. The garter snakes are mated and positive male and female. The female garter snake she tells me has laid 5 eggs. To my knowledge garter snakes give birth to live young and do not lay eggs. The female sits on these eggs and is very protective of them and from all pictures and desciptions I have seen have every appearance of being garter snakes. She has had all 4 snakes together in the same cage for over a year now and is unsure of the green snakes sex. Any ideas or opinions are very welcome.

One of your greens was definitly gravid and laid them. Garters don't lay eggs and definitly do not "nest" on them. That is just romantic wishful thinking. The eggs have in all likely hood dried out since they are not in an incubator.
