breeding "obese" males...?

ginevive Jul 23, 2004 06:31 AM

Do any of you have trouble in using more "heavyset" male Bps for breeding? Does their larger size make them more sluggish and therefore less apt to breed well? I have a monster male normal who really does not move around much. Maybe every few nights he comes out of his warm hide for a drink of water, but that's it besides feeding day. I don't overfeed him (one large rat every 2 weeks) and his caging and temps are good, but he just seems so damn overweight to me. I want to breed him next year; just wondering if you guys have success in breeding overweight males. This guy is much bigger aorund than a beer can.

that is one big guy.

I think I might have one who will one day look like that one, he is just a little over 1 year and weighs around 1000 grams during his last weight check in may. Garbage gut eats anything and he is getting very large (I too only feed him every 2 weeks, though he would more if he could). I have noticed he doesn't move around nearly as much as he use to either, I moved him to a bigger cage the other day to see if he will move around more. Interesting thought about them breeding I never thought about them being too overweight to do a good breeding job. I would love to hear others thoughts also.
