New Snake In Used Cage

Kta Jul 23, 2004 06:46 AM

I have a cage that my corn snake used to be in, I will be buying a kingsnake over the weekend, and ive heard that before transferring the new snake to the cage it must be disinfected. What exactly do I need to disinfect it with? I do not want to use something that could cause harm to the snake. Also, do I have to disinfect items such as the climbing log and tree, and the hides etc?

Thanks

Yes, clean everything first (soak in some hot soapy water then scrub), rinse and then disinfect soak for at least 10 minutes (the longer the better) with either Nolvasan (aka Virosan) or a bleach water combo. Rinse and dry. If using bleach you need to be sure it is really rinsed and dried well.
