Large Gecko species....

Israel2004 Jul 23, 2004 07:54 AM

Looking for a Gecko that as an adult is large enough to eat adult Orange head and Six spot roaches.

My tokays just look to small to tackle an adult roach.

Thanks,
Israel

hmmm, perhaps rhacodactylus leachianus? aka New Caledonian Giant Gecko. eventhough they prefer 50% insects and 50%fruitmash.

best regards

Than let your tokay grow.
Adult tokays, even male yearlings, easily manage these roaches.
R. leachianus is largely frugivor, so it would only take tham here and then.
Gekko smithii, Gehyra vorax, Homopholis boivini and Uroplatus fimbriatus are other species which do not have problems with roaches of that size.

Ingo, can you please find me a reference to homopholis boivini? The only one I have ever seen is in the book "Tokay Geckos" by Zarkowski (dont know how to spell his name). I have the "All species in one book" by Henkel/Shmidt and there is no boivini under homopholis (only fasciata, walberghi, mulleri). Perhaps it is considered to be something else now?

Sorry, I always forget that these guys have been reclassified as Blaesodactylus boivini

Hope that helps

Thanks that clears things up. Any chance you know of someone who I can get one from?
