My Gecko is A BOY!!!!!!!!

Renee524 Jul 23, 2004 10:34 AM

I recently got into collecting leopard geckos with the future intention to breed. I was under the impression that I had 2 females. Well, I was wrong. They are both about full grown now, the female not quite. I think they have possibly mated, but I am not sure. They are both acting quite strange. My question is, will they mate this late in the season, and how harmful could it possibly be to my little female? The male is huge probably about 9" long and very plump. She is quite a bit smaller. Would separating them be in my best interests? I have had them together for a little under a year. I would appreciate any help.

Seperate them asap. The possible health issues of breeding a underweight female include: becoming egg bound (usually requires surgury or leads to death), just not eating, infertile eggs, ect. It is not a good idea to breed them, and I would seperate them as soon as possible until she is over at least 45 grams (preferrably 50).
