In regions in which wild fires are historically 'common', both plants and animals (including herps), have adapted to fires. Populations are reduced to varying degrees depending on the intensity of the fire. Recovery ocurs over time and population densities eventually return to pre-fire numbers.

Richard, do you have any references on studies where fires have reduced reptile numbers and that show the restoration of the population over the next few years? This seems like it would be valuable information for several applications.
