Are 50% hets worthless?

oddballpythons Jul 23, 2004 02:10 PM

OK here is the deal. I bought two 100% het albino males last year from two very well know breeders. I bred them both to a group of large adult females I have. (Those were the only males I had at the time) Now I have bucket loads of 50% possible hets. I am keeping some females for myself but I bred eight females and they laid plenty of eggs. I am not a big breeder so nobody is gonna want these things. Should I just sell them off at normal captive born and bred prices or actually wait for people to buy them as possible hets.

This is the lucky guy that gets to spend time with the females this year. He is a wild caught pastel that decided he loves the taste of rats and won't stop pounding them away.

not having the rep the big breeders have can def cause people to be a little flighty about buying from you but that's how everyone starts... there are people out there with only pennies to dink around with & they buy 50% possible hets etc. so I say keep ya chin up & try to get a little more than a normal price...i'm not saying ask for gold but i would put an honest price above normal a bit & if it doesn't work keep all the girls..& sell the males for normal..& when they prove out you can sell them as proven female hets at ready to breed age which is good money & the ones that don't prove het you sell as ready to breed adult females around the months of september to november when the rush comes in for everyone who wants to get in some extra females for the season... honestly it seems like clockwork every year.. once breeding season hits people are dying for ready to breed females normal & whatever so just keep a positive attitude & try your best you should be able to come out on top without having to bow down & sell them dirt cheap. remember the longer you keep & care for those snakes the more you can charge..reasonably ofcourse..lol
good luck

Sell them for 125 ea. on the girls & 50-75 ea on the boys. Don't give them away, you would be better off keeping them, and proving them out.

This is a tough business, especially if you are "small". I have poss hets that I can't give away LOL. If you have the space, maybe prove out the females. Sell the males as normals but tell the would be buyer how they were produced.

Have fun and good luck!
