Question about my female veiled and gravid colors.

ChicoB Jul 23, 2004 02:47 PM

Hi Again! I bred my 11 month old female veiled to my male and she laid 24 eggs about 3 weeks ago. Today when my male was out on his cage he spotted her and quickly ran to her cage. Well when she saw him she flipped out, turned solid black with orange dots and started hissing and gaping. The thing that has me worried is that she displayed gravid colors to the male. Does that mean she still has eggs in her that didnt come out during the laying? Or is she just not ready to deal with my male? She displays regular colors when the male isnt around and eats and drinks. Thanks

They'll usually hang on to the colors for a while. 24 eggs is a rather small clutch for a veiled, but it doesn't necessarily mean that she kept some in. If the egg laying process went smoothly, she's probably empty. The colors often stay around a while, even all the way up til they lay the probable second clutch in a few months.
