Few questions on feeding, and a better picture of my new arrival

PAsnake Jul 23, 2004 03:22 PM

Monday is feeding day, should i just give a live as it is used to or try F/T first and maybe even fresh killed before giving live?
I want to get him eating, but i would also like to get him on F/T if possible for convienence/safety. Thought i'd check with some more experienced in such matters in advance.

I couldn't help myself while changing the water i saw my digital camera sitting on the bookshelf and decided i had to get a few new pictures. He/she (unsexed) remained calm for the experience.

thanks

Wayne

Right after the closeup as i turned off the camera he started his way to the hide on the other side of the tank. He made a short stop for a drink and i got the camera again and managed this shot.

Nice looking corn!
To start with I would try the pre-killed.
If it takes that without problem, which I'm sure it will, then go ahead and try f/t the next feeding.
my two cents

I was going to suggest the same thing. And yes that is a nice looking corn.

Thanks for the comment and confirmation to try pre-killed first.

Jimmy,
Thanks, i think it's a great looking normal, but then again it is my snake so i am biased .

About the pre-killed what is the best way to do this? preferably something easy and pain free for me and the mouse.

The shop said they had him on fuzzies but looking online it seems fuzzie mice are barely bigger than pinks (1.5 inch compared to 1 inch), does this sound like the right size for my snake? it is about as big around as a half dollar.

When he is going up in size is it better to switch to rat pinks when i can or stick with mice? I saw on some care sheets on the net that rats are more nutritious, also that adults more so than pinks so was unsure if a rat pink is better than an adult mouse.
My copy of the Corn Snake Manual should be here around July 28-Aug 2, sorry if this is all covered in there.

Thanks again

I would go with a hopper. He looks big enough to handle hoppers.
Just take the hopper by the tail and give it quick HARD smack across a hard surface such as a table.
sounds harsh but it is quick.

I should have looked at a half dollar before i said that. Actually the snake is about as big around as a quarter.

sorry

As far as size of prey item... from what it looks like to me, and what you described, I would think that your new snake could take at least a hopper size mouse. This is my opinion. I have some around that size that take 2 hoppers, but anytime you move up in prey try one first to see how they handle it. This is my what works for me anyway.

I thought it could be a hypo, due to the low amount of black around the saddles. In person the borders look more of a chocolaty brown color, but in pictures (with flash) look more black, esp in the close up.
