Tokay Breeding question

LBT Jul 23, 2004 03:44 PM

I Have 7 Tokays. All get along just fine.It is just two months since i purchased them.I have 3 males and four females. They have a large vivarium and run free a lot in the viv room.

My plan is to establish a breding group.I dont need three males, but they were part of the package. What i wonder now is the possibility of this group getting along with hatchlings that might appear in a while. Will this work out or should i separate out two of the males?

i have an idea since you have 3 males 4 females get 3 tanks give each male one female and the last one 2 females that could probably work causei think the males will start fighting if babies come

Yes i have concidered that option. And that will proparbly be the solution if the advices here go that way.

So far the males seem peaceful and kind, but i will separate them if i see any signs of fighting. Its looks like the group backs away from my largest male with respect so far.

Thanks

There is a chance that your 3 males will get along well in future.
But tokays need a long time to feel at home. 2 months is nothing. The risk is high, that out of the sudden after 4-8 months the males will attack or even kill each other.
Also do not expect eggs much earlier than in such a timeframe.

Thanks Ingo.

Their Vivarium is 230 high,1 meter deep and one meter vide. They are free in the room a lot also.

I think i will separate them to make sure that no accidents happen. As for juveniles i dont have high expectations since these are wild caught, they proparbly need a lot of time to adjust.Theyt were sold to me as captive born, but i heard later they were not.
