EATING PROBLEMS???

cdurman Jul 23, 2004 04:51 PM

I have a 2 year old male beardie but I don't think he's eating enough...he's pretty fat but he never moves for a long time now. I take him out of the cage a lot. I have a hard time feeding mixed greens...he never eats them. He likes only certain fruits and vegee's with little vitamins like cukes/watermelon...etc. Also even when I feed him a lot of crickets (20-25 large) or other meat, he won't go poop for sometimes over a week? DOES THIS SOUND NORMAL??? Thanks.

I suggest cutting crickets completely from his daily diet, offering some 2-3 times a week. Every other day, fresh mixed greens. Since he is fat, he may be too fat and that is why he's not as active as he could be. In either case a 2 year old dragon shouldn't have too much insect food.

Since he isn't pooping alot, he could be dehydrated, give him a nice bath in luke warm water for 10-15 minutes and see if that gets t hings moving. You can also offer cooked squash or pureed carrots to his meals to ensure he gets plenty of fluids. I would also recommend cutting out the empty foods as well (ie watermelon, lettace etc)
