Striped Anery or Nice Redtail...???

dustinthompson Jun 22, 2003 12:10 PM

Okay guys, I have stated over and over that I am not much of a snake person. I do not know what morph you would call this snake. There is a small amount of red in the tail, but I do not think it will hold. This snake looks a lot like the Type II Anery at Ralph Davis Reptiles:

Like I said, I am not a snake person, I was just told by several people that this is what I have. This snake looks identical to his Type II (which does have a red look to the tail). I would love to have anyone help me as to identifying this snake. It is way to dark to be a normal - I know this, but if it is not an anery, then what is it.

Thank you for your comments, time, and help.

If there is any red in the tail it is not an anery. There are paradox anerys.......But, those are really few and far between. It "could" be possible that you have one. But, I really doubt that someone would let an animal go like that for as little as you paid. Unless they were just ignorant about it. Which can happen.

I would say you have a nice boa. The fact that you said there was red in the tail makes me say that.
Hope this helps.

It looks like a partially striped, darker variation B.c.i to me...a true genetic "anerythristic" animal lacks the neccessary bio-chemical ability to produce red pigment,(period)the "paradox" anerys that have been mentioned do not enter into this particular analysis, because they result from breeding "proven" anerythristics to other mutations,(as far as I know?)...the paradoxical "red" patches on those animals looks very different than what I see in the picture...try taking another photo outdoors?

The guy that traded me this snake said that a friend of his had some wild caught adults and he bought the first two pics of the litter of fifteen. He got them for the fact they were extremely "dark" and had stripes. He was selling all of his stuff extremely cheap, and if it is a paradox, he would not have known it. He says the parents were both Aneries, but I did not see the parents. There is just a small amount of red. I do not know what I have...it could be something special - who knows. Thank you for your help.
