Night time cooling, Thawed mice, substrates.

3 quick questions.

1) I have an infrared light for heat, the temperature fluxuates between 83 and 86 on the hot side. I was wondering if the snakes like to cool down at night or just leave this bulb on 24/7 as i have been..its just getting annoying when i go to sleep lol.

2) I moved my snake back from pensacola to panama city yesterday, and I had 3 fuzies frozen in a plastic package with ice in there, they partially defrosted. will they be okay to feed?

3) i have astroturf for a substrate at the moment, because I don't have an UTH to worry about burning her, and it's easy to take care of. Would she really be happier with wood chips and how often do I need to change those? What kind also? I can't ever remember if its cypress or cedar...lol.

That's it. Thanks.

If the snake was living in the wild, the temp. drops at night. I turn heat off at night. Temp. in my house is set at 75 degrees. I would through the mice out. A pinkie is about a buck at any petshop. In my opinon aspen is great. Spot clean when they make a mess. Every couple months I empty the aspen and start over. Don't use cedar it is toxic. Pine shavings is also a good substrate.

Our house is set at 68 degrees, however my room is usually in the low 70's (thanks to all my computers, lol.) So would you reccomend pine shavings over the astroturf? What about everyone else?

There is some debate regarding pine. You can't go wrong with aspen, other than the fact that you should feed your snake up off of it in one way or another(different container, etc).
Turning off your heat at night should be fine. You might consider leaving it on the first night after a feeding, but even that is probably not needed as long as you don't notice any problems. Good luck. Duffy
