Clutch of Barker axanthic het X het

viandy Jul 23, 2004 08:02 PM

I've had the snakes several years, but haven't done the right thing, or have done the wrong thing, until this year when I got 6 nice eggs. They all looked good through incubation, but after 59 days no pipping, so I slit them. A live baby in each one! Waited 3 more days, none had left the egg yet. I talked to my vet about it (thanks Stahl!) and then cut big windows this afternoon. Didn't fuss with them, just took this photo and put them back in the incubator. I guess it's only one axanthic, now the wait for them to leave the eggs, then shed and eat, etc. My fingers are crossed! Hope you like the pic.

It might be the way i have the color tweaked on my moitor/videocard(or everyone else is seeing it as well, lol) but...I am betting that both of the 2 on the right are Axanthic, not just the one...

I was thinking the same thing, but the one on top looks to have some yellow on it. Could be the pic.

Double check your incubator temps. Depending on your incubator type, if its sitting directly on a cool surface (concrete) and where your thermometer is located, it might have some cooler areas inside. I keep mine right at 90 degrees and all my eggs hatch between day 53 and 54. I might have had a couple go to 55 but never over that.
Also you might want to throw a thermometer inside the egg box to make sure it's between 89 and 90 degrees.

Good luck

I do keep tabs on it. The incubator is a few years old, was made by Cagemaster. I use an Helix themostat as a controller with the probe set on one of the center shelves. I keep a seperate thermometer on it, and the temp runs right at 89-90. But it never hurts to be reminded of the basics.
