Has anyone tried this for a lay box?????....

I was messing around with the cages today and I starting thinking what kind of texture would perlite have if it was grinded up. So, I grinded some perlite up and it became very small pieces of perlite that were pretty soft and it felt nothing like regular perlite. It was kind of like sand almost. So has anyone used ground up perlite for a lay box/humid hide. I think I am gonna use it because it doesnt seem like it could do any damage to the leo, except impaction, which almost any loose substrate can cause. So if anyone has done this, please tell me your experience with it....

Yep Yep, thats actually the way that I keep my humid/egg laying chambers. I've used nothing but perlite and haven't had anykind of a problem, whether it be abrasiveness or impaction, BUT it could happen. It just hasn't with me. The thing I like about the perlite is that the eggs (mine anyway) seem to be a whole lot firmer... Usually with my potting soil they seem to be kinda soft and they give a little when you touch them, but with the perlite they dont indent at all... They also come out VERY, VERY white... - which is a good deal... - Hope this helped.
