I can answer all of your questions - especially recommending a good breeder in Indy. Where in Indiana do you live? You can buy frozen at the show - usually as soon as you walk in the door to your right. You can buy a bag of pinkies or fuzzies (see what the breeder is feeding the snake) and the time to move up in size comes and you still have a lot left just feed more than one a feeding. You move up in size based on the snakes size. Feed prey about as large as the snakes widest part on it's body. Great substrate for corns are: newspaper, (I use paper towels while in quarantine and if real young and then later switch), Bed-a-Beast and aspen chips or shredded aspen. You can feed on newspaper, paper towels and Bed-a-Beast, some say you can feed on aspen. I feed my sand boas on aspen, but wouldn't do it for a young snake.
I think (not certain) a baby could last in a 10 gallon for awhile. Go with a reptile or human heating pad underneath one side of the tank. Belly heat is important for digestion.
I highly recommend this breeder. Got my corn from him, he has some babies, is very professional, feeds frozen/thawed, is happy to help answer questions (via email) even after you get it home. I'm also getting a crested gecko from him tomorrow. he does sell some supplies as well.
