CHANGING CAGE SETUP SIZE (FOR BREEDING) PLEASE LOOK TO SEE IF YOU AGREE!!!

SNAKEMAN12345 Jul 24, 2004 01:04 AM

okay i was researching a little and i have been seeing alot of smaller cages for breeding boas. first i was just making sure, you keep the boas seprate and cool them for a few weeks seprate before you put them together to breed right? and do you keep it cooled in the breeding cage after they have been cooled for a few weeks in seprate cages already? also was wondering about the smaller cages, people seem to be breeding cages in as small as 4' long X 2 1/2' deep X 28" tall so is this right? i was planning to breed boas in cages around 5-6' long X 3 1/2' deep X 28" tall. would this be good to breed in? PLEASE LET ME KNOW ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT ARE EXPERENCED BREEDERS AND LET ME KNOW WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU. thanks

We told you in your other posts, below, that before breeding you needed to do a LOT of research since you have demonstrated that
1) You have very little knowledge of snake husbandry and
2) You want to be spoonfed

This is not safe for the snakes. You MUST do a LOT of research and get a working base of knowledge before you attempt to breed and raise boas. YOU must do the research. This board is very helpful, but if you know next to nothing about snakes, unless you educate yourself, you will not be prepared if some little glitch arises in the plan, and it is the poor snakes who will suffer. Study please, for the sake of your snakes, they deserve it.

You go girl! More research is needed to be sure! See you in the other place!

These forums don't exist simply for people like you to get your rocks off trying to be the forum police. What if he or she isn't a Troll. Jeezoids! People do come here to learn. I found your post and the others like it to be very arrogant. It sounds like this person's mind is made up, and there is always the chance, due to the fact that accidents happen, that this person might just be successful at breeding something. So why not give some good advice for the sake of possible babies, and put aside the personal venom and need to be heard, and answer the questions or shut up?

lucille Jul 24, 2004 04:14 PM

You are trying to police me, so you are the very thing you are putting down.
I think you are perfect for this guy, why don't you help him? (Instead of policing us).

BLAZEBOAS Jul 24, 2004 05:28 PM

WHY DONT YOU GO BACK AND READ THIS PERSONS PREVIOUSE POSTS AND THE REPLIES THAT WERE GIVEN TO HIM BEFORE YOU SIT HERE AND CALL ANYONE AROGANT!!!! If you do that you will see that everyone has tried to help him. They have answerd his questions (no matter how ridiculouse) and reffered him to some great books and websites for him to find the information that he needs to keep his animals happy and healthy. Yet he still comes here and asks ridiculouse questions that he could have very easily answerd for himself if he would have taken the time and done a little reading first. I dont see you offering him any answers? why not? I think you dont even care to help him. I think the only reason you posted here was to attempt to scold us. Does this make your day? Do you feel better? If you read my previous post i offered him all the help he needed once he did some work and actually knew a little something about the animals he plans to work with. But Imho if he's not willing to read material that is offerd to learn something then the hell with it. why should anyone help him if he's not willing to help himself.IMHO anyone who even has to ask if they can breed boas outside in the winter and dosent know that colombian boas and het albino boas are the same species is not ready to keep boas let alone ask questions on breeding them. If you had read the previouse posts rather than comming here and scolding us then you would know where we're coming from.

LMHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lucille Jul 24, 2004 08:31 PM

I posted that reading and study is absolutely necessary for this guy to ever think about becoming a breeder; and this greyhound dude tells me to shut up- how extremely rude, not to mention that if we all are quiet instead of speaking up for the snakes, who cannot speak for themselves, it would be horribly unethical.
I think Snakeman needs to study, all of y'all who told him that deserve thanks, and Greyhound needs to go to the dog track and run off some of that mouth......

BLAZEBOAS Jul 24, 2004 09:30 PM

MY PLEASURE!!! LOL@ RUNOFF SOME OF THAT MOUTH ! THAT WAS CLASSIC!And af far a telling you to shut up that was terribly uncalled for greyhound should definatly be reprimanded for such a blatant tos violation

Lets see if i can make this clearer than anyone else...YOU ARE NOT READY TO KEEP BOAS LET ALONE BREED THEM!!!! Do you understand now?? You say you want to keep rainbows, colombians, and het albinos right? Well guess what , colombians and het albinos are the same species of snakes! IMHO if you didnt know this your not ready!!! You know next to nothing about these snakes , and while they aren't a hard species to keep some general knowledge is required. You have been given some useful information here but refuse to do the homework. It seems like everyday your on here asking the same questions. Not to be a shmuck but it gets anoying. You dont want to read the information that is given in this forum or go to websites that have been recomended to you or read the books that have been recomended, why bother? It seems to me like your not even interested in learning about boas. Ask your self this do you want to keep and breed boas because you find them facinateing? or do you want to breed boas because you want to make alot of money? If your answer is the second one dont bother. If your answer is the first one act like it. READ READ AND WHEN YOUR DONE WITH THAT DO SOME MORE READING!!! Come to this forum with a little bit of knowledge and i'll personally help you out. You say your in south fl? So am i. I have no problem takeing the time and helping you learn more but dude you need to learn some on your own first. Theres alot more to boas than just buying them, stuffing them in a cage, and feeding them once a week, a helluva lot more! Do your self a favor and stop posting the same questions if you would've read the material recomended to you , you would not have had too

Yes some people have bred boas in 4 ft cages but a larger cage would be better if you have a large female. 6 ft would work great.

I do agree that you do need to learn yourself some info...
But for the sake of the snakes.....

#1 Never let the temperatures GO BELOW 75^f
Never let the Temperature GO ABOVE 90^f
#2 4-6 foot cages are acceptable for each individual.
unless when breeding.
#3 ALWAYS make sure they have FRESH water every DAY.
#4 try NOT TO FEED them live prey if necesary. appropriate size
of prey should not be larger than the thickness of the snake.
#5 their food items are mice or rats, if using frozen , make sure they are THAWED and at room temperature , DO NOT TRY AND MICROWAVE THEM>
#6 breeding will come after you have at least one year experience with husbandry skills, the animals will need proper time to aclimate or adjust to their new home.
& after the females are at least 3 years of age they may be considered for breeding, males at least two years of age.
#7 after all this basic info you should consider reading up on some good litterature given in the other posts, they are good.

And GOOD LUCK!!

Lets see how long before he's back asking the same questions

snakemannick Jul 24, 2004 10:40 PM

Yeah I know but I could not help myself, I figured if I made it as SIMPLE as SIMPLE IS maybe he would get it.
I think maybe what he wants to know is our exact breeding techniques that have made us succesfull through years of trial and error.
Just to let him know We all have slightly different techniques that work with our own trials and successes. I know some info I keep to myself, but do not mind sharing the common known basics.
Hope this guy gets the picture, or maybe he just wants to piss everyone off or something, maybe he's sittting behind his keyboard laughing or thinking of some other silly question.
who knows, I just thaught I had to give my 2cents worth, now I'm happy.
Take care,
Nick
