Herpin' in Whitewater

Mollyskali Jul 24, 2004 03:17 AM

Did a little road cruising from 9-11:30pm in Whitewater tonight. Took the dirt road up to the wind turbines till it ended and walked about 1/4 mile. Only saw a huge owl. On our way back towards the freeway, just before the bridge, we spied a Spotted Leaf-nosed snake. It's tail looked like it had been clipped by a car. Hell, he was so small, I almost ran him over! I hopped out and started playing with him on the road. Feisty! I hoped to have a pic to post, but my wife is still learning how to use our new digital and tonight wasn't a good time for a lesson.

Final count:
1 Phyllorhynchus decurtatus
2 owls
1 field mouse

Was it hot out? I think its too hot down there right now, I went once and only spotted two snakes. There were several other people cruising that night. The officer that stopped us with a decoy snake said he already stopped seven snake hunters before us, so it may not have been the best night for that reason. I have yet to see a leaf nose though, Im hoping to find one soon!

Here are a few pics from a trip I went on a few years ago in Whitewater. We did find one leaf nose. I went to Whitewater this spring as well, but havent uploaded any of the pictures yet.

Great post,I like the way you post multible photos or images in one post with details. Can you or anyone else tell me how to do this. I know how to post single images but can't seem to post more than one per post.
Thank you, R.Bichler

On this forum here at kingsnake.com, you can see the link at the bottom of the Message heading, called "Tools and Toys". It shows you tricks you can use within your message to make it more than just plain old text. For instance, if you wanted to display a picture that is hosted at:

http://www.yourdomainname.com/path-to-your-photo/yourimage.jpg

You would put (without the quotation marks) the URL as above and then in front of it you would type "Image"

You can do this multiple times to display multiple images.

It wasn't incredibly hot in Whitewater, but there were gusts of extraordinarily hot wind. It was rather nice and we had the windows down most of the time. This time of year isn't the best for snake hunting, but when you have the itch, you gotta roll with it. And yes, I was VERY pleased with the leaf-nosed. Very pretty snake, feisty attitude, and small enough to be a challenge. We are probably going out again this weekend if anybody wants to team up. Let us know!
