Female showing colors: gravid or just ready to mate?

jmpeniche Jul 24, 2004 07:48 AM

One of my females recently started displaying bright orange streaks along her sides, etc. Does that mean she's necessarily gravid or just ready for mating? Haven't seen any interaction w/the male.

Thanks for your time.

John

the orange marks (or the term gravid) just mean that she has eggs in her that are ready to be fertilized. it is up to the boy to fertilize them, so be hoping for some lizard loving ha ha!

Thanks, Vonnie!

Unfortunately, "lover boy" (my lone male) hasn't shown any interest that I've observed. I had a beautiful aquaflame male that I kept for breeding but he didn't survive last winter's brumation, though the three I have now did. Don't know what went wrong.

Can you recommend a source for a high-quality male aquaflame? I'd like one w/lots of yellow or orange.

Regards,

John

oh i am really bad with breeders. i don't really know any except i know that there are people on this forum who do breed that kind but i always get confused on who it is. there are some recent posts (in the last month) where people have asked about yellow heads. my advice is to maybe look through old posts or look in the classified ads for aquaflames. maybe try contacting pheve (the forum director and wonderful person) she is very knowledgable about these things.
