still trying to catch pics of my nile jumping for mice, well i sorta got em.......[pics]......

skyliner Jul 24, 2004 09:48 AM

the first set is her coming out her hide to investigate the smell of rodentsI really need to get a pair of tongs as shes starting to look at my fingers in a funny way!(Note) i do know the risks of hand feeding but i only do it occasionally, now it seems i may have to stop)

this 2nd set is pretty much whats left of a mouse,no messing around when it comes to food i suppose

Am i alone in this forum or doesnt anyone have pics of their niles to show off?
either way enjoy

Nice pics.I'm gonna get some pics of mine today and post em. These guys get no love, lol

skyliner Jul 24, 2004 01:40 PM

and more a case of that the niles are only really for the hardcore enthusiast, but often times they are bought by joe shmo looking for a new cuddly toy,or the teeny rebel who wants to scare his mates,in the end the end up dying or given away to rescue centres.I know a few people here have niles but are reluctant to post pics or are otherwise just not able to get close enough for a pic, hahahahahah

how old and long is your nile? I have a baby about 13" and its about 3 months old is that abut the right size for that age?
thaks Alex

Question as i f**ked up when i first got her,i didnt feed her enough and im pretty sure thats why shes still so small now(shes somewhere between3.1/2-4ft in lenght)but she should be more like 5.1/2-6ft by now.In saying that i dont think there is a set size at a set age, just give her the proper care and as much food as shes willing to take and see how it goes.Sorry but that's all i can offer you in terms of help

They require lots of space, food, commitment and common sense. Heres my big girl, almost 6 feet. She looks like yours alot.

Just got this guy in yesterday. Needs lots of work. Under fed and dehydrated. Has an appointment at the vets office on Monday for some x-rays. Still pissy, strong and a black belt at croc rolls.

ral Jul 24, 2004 11:47 PM

Here Mark, took some better pics of it.That other pic I took was lousy.

Jody told me once, you guys had talked about it before, maybe it was someone else. This guy's spots are raised as well.

No big deal, not planning to sell it or anything.Just curious if you had any info on it. Thanks again

mequinn Jul 26, 2004 01:30 AM

Hi,
Yes, now I can see some of the red sprinkled in there = beautiful animal...

Yes, Jody and I did talk about this pattern type before. This beaded pattern is indeginous to West Africa, from Sierra Leone to Nigeria, from coastal to inland 200 or so miles...it is specific to certain habitats, and not that common...what is the tail like from cloaca to tail tip??

Sorry for earlier post, but it did not 'click'with me then, maybe I was low on oxygen saturation as that often puts me in a stupor alot of the day...

cheers, Thanks for sharing with me,
mbayless

ral Jul 26, 2004 10:37 PM

Thanks Mark, don't blame it on the lack of oxygen. It's all those newcastles mixed with cheap scotch, lol.

Heres a pic of the tail. It was taken w my camera, which blows, unlike my buds(who took the other pics) but still thought a picture would be a whole lot better than me describing it. Thanks a bunch!--Raul

Theres an ornate nile at my frinds that has a yellow pattern as an sub-adult and had it as a hatchling. The animal has a tongue thats pink and purple if I remember. It also only has 4 rows of spots on its back instead of 5.

ral Jul 26, 2004 01:25 AM

This one has 7 rows.Havent checked the tongue color yet but ill check it tomorrow lol.

Earlier today, I was on my way out of the house and noticed a "harely" had posted to you. Was going to respond to you but I was in a rush. Him and Mark are very good friends and they call each other smeg and other names jokingly. He had accidentally posted under you instead of Marks. He was just telling him he had seen the nile in person

SHvar Jul 27, 2004 11:41 AM

The post just seemed unusual for a response to what was said. If I would have known that, well, things would be a bit different.

ral Jul 27, 2004 09:08 PM

No sour grapes at all. He's not upset with you, you didn't know.

Just thought I'd let you know so you wouldn't think it was directed at you

ral Jul 26, 2004 11:42 PM

Hi Shvar. Just checked it's tongue and it goes from dark purple at the base, then halfway down its hot pink and ends with a dull looking pink color at the tip. The tongue measures at 2.3 inches and the boy is exactly 1 foot, 3.5 inches. Thanks for commenting!
