VEILED CHAMELEONS EGG'S HATCHING PREMATURE

scott202 Jul 24, 2004 10:06 AM

I have a clutch of veiled cham's egg's. They are coming up on six months. The problem is that some of the egg's are starting to hatch out. But the little lizards on the in side is premature. It stop growing some time back, because it is still to little to hatch out. It has all of its parts but you can still see threw its body. It looks like it needed to grow for about another month. What made it go the full six months, then brake out and not be ready ? This is the fifth egg to do this. I still have 14 good one left that should be hatching any day. Im hoping they will be allright. They are really big egg's in size. The egg's grew really big but the lizard on the inside was really small for the egg size pluse not ready to come out. Thanks for any help............ ...................Scott..................

It could be anything,
From temp changes to humidity changes to act of god
Are you using an incubater? If so what temp? is the humidity changing? sometimes rain(higher humidity) effects hatching

Hope The Rest Of The Eggs Hatch!!!

No I just have them in a box in the closet. The box is all taped up so it stay's dark. I have two holes in the box for air. The humidity stay's the same. And the temp stays the same too. I keep a close watch on them and I have not added any extra water for a while. So every thig is still the same. At first I thought it was because I added water to them. So I did'nt do that again, but when it did it a week later, then another week later. I was starting to get confused what could be doing this. The only thing, I do different is to look in the box every day to see if any egg's have started to hatch out. But I wonder why did'nt the lizard keep on growing on the in side. You can tell it stoped growing some time back......Scott..

What's the "constant" temperature inside the incubator? IF it's too high, this is almost definetly the reason for deformities and premature hatching.
