My bp ate!!!!!....now what?>

sparky26 Jul 24, 2004 01:38 PM

I fed my new bp its first meal today, a white mouse, and it went off perfectly. Do i need to wait five days, one week, or maybe two before feeding it again? also can i handle it now that ive had it a week. will it be more docile now that its ate? )

I wouldn't handle it untill you have it well started. By well started I'm talking 2-3 meals. Wait 1 week then you can feed him/her again. Once it has settled in and is well started you can begin handling him/her. Wait 2 days after you feed before you handle. It may or may not be more docile. Really the only way to find out is to stick your hands in the cage.

Weekly feedings are the best regiment, but i try to offer them food as soon as 5 days or even 4 if the prey last fed was alot smaller than the snakes girth(aka hopper mice). But only if they have in fact been "off feed".

Some Of them go "off feed" annually. However all ball pythons are different.
You will learn yours in time(say, 2 years..lol).Until then you will not know what months (if any) they will or will not go "off feed".

If you notice it playing "peek a boo" from its hide at certain times of the day. Then that may be the hour of the day to try to feed it as well..
