Border Crossing

Hawk Jul 24, 2004 07:33 PM

I'm going to be traveling to the states soon to pick up some corns I have ordered that will be arriving in just over a week, and will then be driving them back across the border to Canada.
I was just wondering if anyone else here has done this and what the experience was like.
Just wondering what I should expect when I try and bring snakes across the border, ie. whether there will be unforseen customs to pay, whether they will try and seize them claiming that they will highly venomous and a danger to all mankind, you know, that kind of thing.

Hmmm...please let me know how this turns out. I'm curious since I remember making many trips from US into Canada during college years and I rarely had a problem EXCEPT once...customs flagged my car and I had to pull over. My friends and I got out of the car and watched as customs officials/police tore through my seats and basically disassembled my cars interior. 2 1/2 hours later, we were back on the road swearing to never go back into Canada again. I don't know what they were looking for (probably drugs) and I don't know why we were pulled aside (maybe b/c we were young or were with attractive girls?). They actually confiscated a small knife that I had under a seat of my SUV with some tools but did not say anything about it. It was an odd experience to say the least. Oh well, we didn't care b/c we had nothing to hide and we were just a few of thousands of kids that go across the border for underage fun.lol. Anyway, I would check in advance and IF its a problem then find another way around it. It sure would suck if you traveled and paid all that money only to have some uneducated customs official start trouble with you. My experience was 10 years ago and things have probably changed FOR THE WORSE with homeland security. Just don't hide the snakes in your shoe.lol. Keep us posted.

Sounds like you were having a great time, well, except for the two and half hours of hell
I'm definitely gonna try looking into it before I head out there, so far all I can hope is that I get lucky with someone not too uneducated
The only other story I'd ever heard of was someone heading from Canada into the States, and they got pulled over so their car could be searched for "wild dogs" and the such, even their suitcases got searched. I really hope I get luckier than them
