How to run Flexwatt

dmacl Jul 24, 2004 09:49 PM

I'm working on a 3 shelf rack for my ball pythons. I've not worked with flexwatt before, but my understanding is that I don't want to bend it. So, is it possible to run three strips in a series so that I can run all 3 shelves off of one thermostat or do I have to have each strip on each shelf run to a seperate plug which is plugged into seperate thermostats? Or do I need to find a thermostat that will accept three plugs, I've seen em take two but not three.

yes you can run it in series, most herpers do it that way.beanfarm.com has a illustrated work sheet on running it in series.you'll want to put the probe in the warmest (usually top) level.it's wise to also check the temps with a I/O thermometer, they have a probe also.the thermostat probe placement is touchy, you'll have to play with it to get it just were you want it,best done before the animals are in the tubs.i always (with the rack empty)do a dry run, that is plug in the rack directly into a wall socket and leave it overnight and check the temps in the mourning.if in the unlikely event the thermostat sticks open you'll know ahead of time if the rack gets to temps that are dangerous.have fun!

..on the end of each flexwatt piece opposite the wiring you must seal the end,the exposed wire is "HOT" ,electrical tape works fine.
