How long between hatching of one egg in a clutch and the other?

LizardMom Jul 24, 2004 11:59 PM

I guess I'm paranoid, but the other two clutches hatched out within hours of each other. This one the first baby hatched, and it's been almost 24 hours and no sign of the other one trying to hatch. If anything, this second egg is larger than the one that has already hatched.

Maybe I shouldn't worry, but I could use some info to ease my mind. Is it normal for there to be that long between clutchmates hatching? This is my first attempt at breeding, and so far I haven't lost one baby. Also, this clutch was laid three days after another clutch by a different female, and those eggs have not hatched yet. Is it normal for clutches incubated at the same temperature to hatch 'out of order' of being laid?

Thanks in advance for any answers,
Leslie

I have heard of them going as much as a week apart, but personally the longest I've seen was 3 days, and most within 24 hrs.

Thanks! Naturally, since I posted, the egg hatched, as well as one of the ones that should have hatched before it. But the hatchling I was worried about is the biggest by far of all the ones I've gotten. First year breeding, and I'm seven for seven, with three more to go. I'm really liking this, babies all over the place, and they're all so cute.
