placement of heat source

joeycoco98 Jul 25, 2004 01:14 AM

Please help! I am a snake person but a friend has purchased a pair of Bearded Dragons. I am helping him with his tank setup and have a question about heating. Should the undertank heat strip be positioned under the heat lamp or should the heat sources be stacked with one side of the cage with no heat, the middle with the undertank heater and the last with the basking lamp? Any help would be greatly appreciates.

Thanks,
Miller

They need a hot side and a cool side. They need their basking site to reach 95- 105 degrees. The cool side should be around 80. At this point in time, if it is hot out, you should only need to use the basking bulb. The under the tank heater may only be needed when your home gets really cold.

Thanks for the advice! Also, the undertank heater instructions never mentioned how deep the sandbed should/can be for the heater to be most effective. I have read that the sand bed should be 2"-3", will that thickness of sand reduce the effectiveness of the undertank heater?

Thanks again,
