1. How old or how many pounds does a ball python need to be before you can breed them?

2. How often can they breed? Can a male breed more often?

3. Is there a certin age when they stop breeding?

1. How old or how many pounds does a ball python need to be before you can breed them?
........
males at a year at times......females should be 2 1/2 years old.....and 1500 grams.....

2. How often can they breed? Can a male breed more often?
........
males can breed everyday......females too....but they average every other day all winter till they are done.....then they stop....they lay eggs once a year.......

3. Is there a certin age when they stop breeding?
.........
when they are dead?...30 years plus?.......

4......
you really should get a couple books....read them 3 times...I like Richard Ross' "keeping and breeding pythons and boas"...still a good book......

good luck.......

I have heard of females breeding smaller...not really reliable info...but I have heard of it...I wonder if wild caught females will breed at smaller sizes because they are just older...it takes longer for a wild caught female to get to 1000 grams than a CB and raised animal

Good point about older, smaller animals breeding size. But if we`re talking cb females at 1000-1200 grams, yes it CAN be done. But SHOULD it be done? Really hard on the females, and it could effect their long term productivity. In humans, a 12 year old girl could have a baby but is it a good idea? Hardly. Good Luck, Satans Helper

human 9 and 11 year olds have had babies...but it is not recommended practice.......

..........

I know a man....has 18 kids.....he is 57...his oldest kid is 45..........do the math.....(that kids mom is now 67 also).....yes..more than one woman for the 18 kids.....

so males can do more than one females breedings.......LOL....

okay.....you want to get techinical...females CAN breed at 18 months of age and 989.5 grams......and will throw you up to ? 8 eggs even....small eggs.....and little babies...they may or may not live...and will be smaller to start and probably take longer to grow themselves.....

also...your female now has bred at a young age and may or may not be smaller in the long run...and may or may not have problems with egg laying due to being smaller and immature actually.....

could go well....could go bad......

(yes I have bred 18 month olds..gotten 8 good eggs and had the female grow into a 5 pound large breeder......)...yes I have had little eggs and dead in egg babies before....

for general purposes in forums....tell people to breed at 1500 gram and 2 1/2 years...so they have less troubles....

Thanx.........
