blue racer feeding

jasonmattes Jul 25, 2004 04:14 AM

has anyone had a difficult time getting a wc blue racer to eat. I have tried pinkie rats with no luck and am going to try a mouse as soon as i can get one. Is there anything else they eat besides rodents.
The snake if from oregon if that helps

Thanks Jason

Actually what you have is a Western Yellow-bellied Racer. The W/C racers I have had ate well if placed in a dark container with the food. Make sure the snake is not disturbed in any way as this is more important than darkness. Try a f/t mouse like this. If it does'nt take I have never failed with frogs. You could also try lizards. Once it takes the food use scenting or any technique to get it on rodents and you should do well.
