'Taming' ACFs?

Odd1Out Jul 25, 2004 09:28 AM

I recently rescued 2 not-quite-adult ACFs from a company that sells them for schools for dissections. These two are not quite fully grown, so I estimate their ages to be between 7-10 months. They've likely never been around humans much, and it is possible that their interactions with humans before now were traumatic. Judging from the fuss they kicked up when I tried to get them into their tank, they are totally wild and scared witless of humans.

The worst of the problem is that these two are not the bright and shining intellectual stars of the froggy world. They have to be bonked on the heads with food for them to notice it and go for it... they pay no mind to the floating food sticks or the feeder fish, and rush to hide whenever I approach, which makes bonking them on the noggin with the food almost impossible. Now, I'm sure they'll clue in eventually that humans aren't all bad, but I'm going in for surgery soon, and someone else will be taking care of my little zoo.. and he won't have the patience to wait while the frogs come out of hiding and patiently drizzle food pellets past their noses to make sure they eat. I'll be gone possibly over a week (3 days in hospital, 3 days at my mother's recuperating and being fussed over), so I don't want these two going hungry. How can I get these two to clue in quicker and eat stuff that doesn't hit them on the heads?

Sara

Mmmm.... I suppose you could set up a seperate tank full of feeder guppies and have someone come over and just net a few and stick them in the tank every day or so?
